Today I will begin the creation and production of my music magazine for the main coursework task. The first part of the magazine I will be producing is the front cover, I have already chosen and created a mock-up for the layout of the cover so I roughly know what I am going to do. The first step in the creation of my front cover production will be to shoot the images; I am confident with doing this as I have already created a detailed photo shoot plan and have a clear idea of what sort of image I want, however, I have not yet found a model for the photoshoot so I will need to find one in the next few days. In addition to this, I am not a great photographer so I think it may take me a while to shoot the right image but with the clear idea of what I want my image to be I am confident that I will get the right image eventually.
Never the less, there are a few things I am not feeling so confident about. I have not yet decided on a name or a definite colour scheme for the front cover. I have a few ideas for the name of my magazine: Indiego or Indiependent. If I choose 'Indiego' I will incorparate the colour indigo into my colour scheme however I am not sure if this will fit with the codes and conventions of my genre or fit with the needs of my target audience, who will be primarily male. I am more inclined to choose the 'Indiependent' as the name for my magazine; I prefer this option as it fits with my magazine in a number of ways; people of my target audience will be independent so it will be relatable to them, my magazine is going to be one of a kind and independently published, there is a newspaper called the 'independent' which will suggest my magazine is going to report on interesting and informative matters and will give it a more sophisticated reputation.
With regards to my colour scheme, from the research I have done I have concluded that red, white and black are the most commonly occuring colour scheme choices for a magazine of my genre. I like this colour scheme as it is bold and contrasting so will create an eye-catching and bold magazine front cover. However, I am not sure whether I want to completely comply with the codes and conventions in this case and I might attempt to 'mix it up' and use a different colour scheme so that my magazine doesn't become a copy of other magazines that already exist as my target audience will have no insentive to buy it if this is the case. I want my magazine to be different and stand out from others but I am not sure whether changing something so crucial like the colour scheme could be too much of a bold and risky move. I will ponder my ideas over the next few days and come to a conclusion; perhaps I could make a mock-up using two different colour schemes to compare them and come to my decision.
