Who:
The person in my main image will be a 24 year old, female artist named Riley Divanee who has recently split from her musical partnership. I have chosen a woman to use as my main image as I believe the male demographic - who are most likely to read my magazine – would find a female attractive and appealing and this would make my magazine conform to their needs and therefore my magazine will be popular with them. This decision will also cater for the slightly smaller number of females that will be consuming my magazine as they will also find her attractive and will idolize and look up to her therefore creating a relationship with her and making them trust my magazine more.
Shot Type:
I am going to have a medium close up as the main image for my front cover. I have chosen a medium close-up as my main image is going to be of a female artist so I want some (but not much) of her skin showing, it will be a shot from her shoulders up. I think this type of shot will appeal to my male audience as the exposure of skin will suggest her sexuality and evoke erotic feelings therefore making her seem desirable and attractive. It will also be appealing to a male audience as a close-up shot creates intimacy and a connection between the reader and the artist featured which will make the reader feel connected with the artist and it will seem as though she is talking/calling out to you. Furthermore, I think this shot type will appeal to a female audience also as it will not sexualise my artist too much and degrade women, it just shows enough skin for the sexual suggestion to be there. Also, the image will mostly be focused on the artists face and this will appeal to a female audience as they will be able to see her beauty and this will be desirable, in addition, if her face is shown very close up it suggests she has nothing to hide and will be truthful in her feature. I have chosen not to expose much of her skin as I do not want to take away from the point of the artist being in the magazine and also want to keep the reader guessing; if they cannot see much of her the reader will wonder about her and this will intrigue them into picking up and buying my magazine. The shot will be at a level angle; I have chosen this as it will put the celebrity on the same level as the reader and make them seem relatable and equal to one another which will make the reader feel good about themselves.
Body Language:
The artist will be making direct address in this shot and so her body language will be quite open; this will make the reader feel as though she is speaking directly to them and the reader will build a trust with the artist because making direct eye-contact with someone suggests you are telling the truth as people always tell you to look them in the eye if they believe you to be lying as your eyes reveal a lot about what you are thinking. In addition to this, it seems as though she is trying to share something specifically with reader which makes it feel more personal and like the celebrity trusts you with what she is going to say; this will gratify the reader’s ego and make them more likely to buy the magazine. It also makes the reader feel like a part of the ‘conversation’ and makes everything seem personal – again building a relationship between the reader and celebrity.
Lighting/Background:
The lighting in the shot will just be natural studio lighting so you can clearly see everything you need to in the shot without it being too bright. The background of my image will just be white as white connotes that something is fresh, new, up to date and also connotes the idea of innocence, purity, heaven, positivity and perfection; these connotations will then be associated with the artist on the cover of my magazine and fit well with her persona and will also be associated with my magazine and create a good reputation for it thus enticing readers to purchase it.
Costume:
The artist will be wearing a black off the shoulder top. This is to expose some skin and suggest her sexuality and evoke erotic feelings and desire which will appeal to the male audience of my magazine. I have chosen to have her shoulders showing in order to achieve this suggestion of sex as in many religions it is deemed inappropriate for a woman to have her shoulders showing as it is too exposed so I feel that this would be a reasonable amount of flesh to be revealed. I have chosen for my artist to wear a black top because this colour has connotations of mystery, elegance, power, elegance and formality. By wearing black, its connotations will be associated with the artist and again make her seem desirable and attractive. The connotation of mystery associated with black will also make the reader intrigued and want to buy my magazine.
